The Asai Jiya Cultural History Text Has Been Translated
The Ministry of Cultural Preservation Met An Historic Milestone
A team of over three hundred personnel from across the alliance have recorded and translated from the hyper tonal Asai language their oral history as a text. The first page is excerpted below.
Once, we were small and prey to all. They would stab us and burn us and eat us. We danced and sang and made our families strong. They would catch us and drown us and eat us. We loved our babies and taught them well. We sang our families' songs, to our children and our children's children and our children's children's children. The families became strong and smart and kind. They would use lightning and humiliate us and strip away our feathers and wings. The Jiya took us as pets and sang our songs. One day those who made us prey heard our songs and understood. And they sang songs back to us. And they let captives free and we returned them to their families. Those who preyed on us learned our songs and told us: They were sick and dying. And they said they were sorry we had been their prey. Our great grandfathers and grandmothers said 'we must help' and we did as best we could. Soon we saw it was too late. They were to die. We had just made them our friends. We had just made them our family. And we had to watch them die. We took their name and our name and we held them up. We became the Asai Jiya. This is our faith and this is our people.
